Talking Sustainability with the Royal Canadian Mint

Ottawa, ON,

Earlier this month, Colin Osborne, President & CEO, had the honor of speaking at the Mint Directors Conference hosted by the Royal Canadian Mint, the producer of Canada's circulation and collector coins.

During this event, Colin discussed our commitment to sustainability and the steps we are taking to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into our business practices.

In his presentation, Colin emphasized our belief in continual improvement and shared some of the ongoing initiatives at Samuel, which include:

  1. Setting targets: We’ve implemented a number of great initiatives, including goals to reduce GHG emissions and energy use, by 7.75% and 10% respectively, by 2025.
  2. Finding new opportunities: Some of the big projects we’re currently working on include installing solar panels across the business and continuing to invest in sustainable innovation, like additive manufacturing at Burloak Technologies Inc. and supporting the electric vehicle market.
  3. Collaborating with other like-minded organizations: In addition to Colin’s session with the mint, Colin also shared that we recently partnered with the Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), joining a suite of Fortune 500 companies such as Accenture and BASF. This partnership allows us to exchange ideas, explore opportunities, and collectively address challenges in the pursuit of sustainability.

“Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we know we have a lot of opportunities to make an impactful difference,” shared Colin, “I look forward to taking advantage of those opportunities and sharing our progress.”
