The event was attended by company representatives, state and local government, site developers and members of the local media.
Located three hours from Sierra Aluminum’s operations in California, the new facility in Mexicali will increase its ability to serve and meet the needs of its growing customer base while providing capacity for future growth. The facility is expected to be completed, with products shipping by the end of 2023.
“We are thrilled to be starting construction on our new state-of-the-art facility in Mexicali,” commented Victor Toscano, President of Sierra Aluminum. “Over the past few years, there has been an increasing demand for our products and services. This new facility signifies our commitment to continue to best support our customers and meet their requirements.”
A great deal of support for this new operation has been provided by state and local governments, as well as local businesses. Grupo Cadena, a family-owned contractor, began construction on the plant at the beginning of the year. The completed facility will include state-of-the-art extrusion presses, built by Cometal Engineering, a highly automated anodizing line by SAT (Surface Aluminum Technologies), and plant and packing automation equipment from Emmebi.
“The development of this facility is a turning point for the business – enabling us to increase our capacity, strengthen our relationships with current customers and build relationships with new ones,” said Colin Osborne, Samuel’s President and CEO. “With these expansion efforts and our ongoing commitment to invest and modernize our operations, we aim to distinguish ourselves from our competitors by offering several intangible benefits including well-developed infrastructure.”
Acquired by Samuel in 2018, Sierra Aluminum is one of the largest fully integrated aluminum extruders in the western United States and serves customers in the building and construction, solar, and recreational vehicle markets.
