To embed this way of thinking across the organization, we continually focus on DEI-specific training. Our first two self-paced modules, which covered key DEI concepts and principles, were completed by more than 87% of the organization. We are also focused on ensuring that all leadership training at Samuel, including senior leadership training at West Point Military Academy and Samuel’s in-house Leadership Development Program, is focused on building inclusive leadership capabilities.

In addition to training, all Business Units are tasked with building and actioning DEI playbooks to ensure we make annual progress on each of our three pillars. Samuel team members are distributed across the US, Canada and Mexico and in smaller satellite offices outside of North America. These playbooks include both enterprise-directed and local initiatives. Examples include:

  • Working with high school boards to build awareness of manufacturing and trades careers
  • Partnerships with local colleges
  • Partnerships with newcomer support organizations
  • Partnerships with organizations that encourage women in the trades
  • Partnerships with second chance organizations
  • Technical operator training programs to support site-level career progression
  • Support transition to retirement through site level programs such as reduced work weeks

  • Tuition Reimbursement Program
  • Mentorship Program
  • Elevating Women Circle (Enterprise Business Resource Group for Women)

“My vision is for Samuel’s workforce, at every level, to be representative of all the communities that we operate in. Eventually, I’d like to see our DEI efforts extend externally – including the diversification of our supply chain and ensuring our marketing and customer service efforts are reflective of the diverse and inclusive company that we are.”
