The production supervisor (1st shift) leads, instructs, trains, and manages the activities of 1st shift personnel fabricating and welding custom designed ASME code and non-code pressure vessels, process equipment, components and other items from stainless steel or other metals for NSI and its customers.
Confers and coordinates with Plant Foreman and Scheduler on all job requirements, special problems related to jobs, schedule and personnel as necessary. Confers with 2nd shift Supervisor as needed.
Consults with Engineering, Quality Control, Human Resources and other departments as needed.
Supervises 1st shift employees on assigned projects to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety standards are met or surpassed in a timely manner, address complaints and analyze/resolve technical and non-technical issues. Assist with assessing employee job performance and administering disciplinary measures as required.
Demonstrates, instructs, and trains employees to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the various required processes and techniques.
Manages project daily and weekly task schedule and 3 week look ahead.
Determines machinery and equipment malfunction and request assistance from the maintenance department.
Sets up and operates machines/equipment to make test runs.
Inspects work in progress and is responsible for the quality of products produced by 1st shift. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
Responsible to ensure employees maintain clean and orderly work areas following all established safety rules and procedures.
Assumes duties and responsibilities of Plant Foreman when required.
Minimum of four years of fabrication/welding experience in custom stainless steel fabrication and a minimum of three years’ experience as a successful lead person or supervisor in a metal fabrication environment.
Be knowledgeable and technically/operationally proficient and safety minded in all tasks required of a fabricator/welder including: TIG, MIG, flux-core, sub-arc and spot welding techniques; reading and comprehending blueprints and specifications, ASME codes and weld symbols; experience working with power and hand tools, fork trucks and overhead cranes.
Above average mechanical aptitude and math skills, with emphasis on fractions and decimals.
Demonstrated capabilities to follow procedures, safety standards, instructions and direction and be attentive to detail in all job tasks and to supervise accordingly.
Excellent communication skills both written (electronic) and verbal with the ability to lead all types of people and operate effectively in a team setting with all organizational levels.
Ability to meet predefined deadlines while withstanding related pressure and stress, managing changing routines and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to instruct/demonstrate, teach and mentor 1st shift employees in all aspects of their work requirements.
