My name is Ana Graciela De La Hoya Gonzalez and I love my job because my bosses care about me as a person and about my professional growth. I love coming to work and having a voice. My boss listens to the teams’ ideas and we all work together to make them a reality. This makes me feel appreciated and I love how my bosses constantly believe in me. They invite me to join projects I thought were way beyond my capabilities and I’m so grateful for that.
This approach is truly what sets Samuel apart from the competition. I feel I’m being treated fairly and equally, which increases my level of commitment and satisfaction, and makes me feel incredibly loyal to Samuel.
Even though I’ve already worked here for many years, I still feel like there are great opportunities to advance. I started as an inspector, then in 2015 I was promoted to an Eddy Current Operator and in 2018 I was promoted to a Di-Cell Leader. Some of the key daily tasks I complete in my current role include Eddy current instrument calibrations and inspections and providing mentorship and guidance to a team of Eddy current operators.
Working at Samuel has taught me a number of valuable skills including how to work smart – which helps me complete daily assignments as efficiently as possible – and how to be adaptable because co-workers and supervisors have different work habits and approaches and it’s important that everyone feels accepted and included. At Samuel you’re challenged, encouraged and mentored, but you also get to have fun!
Jadda McGrimmond, Set Up Operator Burlington, Ontario Joined Samuel in 2009
10 years ago, I was one of the first women to join Samuel’s Appleby plant. Coming from a customer service background, it was intimidating joining an all-male workforce in an industrial environment. However, from the very beginning the atmosphere in the plant was friendly and my co-workers were helpful. I always feel included.
Upper management has also given me a lot of positive feedback, which has given me a real sense of pride in my job. I would tell anyone interested in a career with Samuel that you will feel welcome, pushed outside of your comfort zone, well-trained and given opportunities to advance.
Being a Samuel employee has taught me to embrace new challenges and if I could describe my job in one word it would be “satisfying.”
Allison Scime, Crane Operator Burlington, Ontario Joined Samuel in 2010
My name is Allison Scime and I am a crane operator at Samuel. My first chance to operate a crane was nine years ago when I started working for Samuel. What I love most about working at Samuel is working with heavy machinery and, of course, the pay check.
I decided to work for Samuel because my father works here and I wanted to better my life. I am very happy as a crane operator at Samuel. My job is very fast-paced – I work in an environment that is always on the go – but the guys I work with always make it enjoyable. Even though I am a woman working in a male-dominated profession I have always felt included and part of the team. I have learned a lot in the past nine years and I plan to continue learning and growing with Samuel.
Dave Small, Maintenance Supervisor Heath, Ohio Joined Samuel in 1987
I have been a maintenance guy for nearly 40 years, and I am proud to say I have spent 32 of those years at Samuel. Each day brings new experiences, and no two days are ever the same. I very much enjoy solving problems at work and teaching others the craft of maintenance. There is really no challenge too big when you’ve got a great team around you.
Working for Samuel is more than just a job – it’s also about friends and family. The people at Samuel are what make it a great place to work and they’re a big part of why I always suggest Samuel if someone tells me they’re looking for a new opportunity. At Samuel, we invest in our team members so they can continue to grow their careers with us. We are always teaching, learning and developing our skillsets. Some days may be challenging, but they’re always worth it. I truly enjoy each day at Samuel and feel lucky to work for such a great company.
A Day in the Life...
Louis Schempp, Truck Driver Pittsburgh, Pa. Joined Samuel in 2016
My name is Louis Schempp and I have been a truck driver at Samuel for approximately three years. While I have some regular tasks – receiving paperwork, visually inspecting, loading, securing and unloading my truck and making deliveries to customers – no day is ever the same.
If I had to describe my job in one word, it would be “satisfying”. The part of my job I like the most is driving my truck and the customer relationships I build along the way. We meet new customers almost daily, but we also see many on a regular basis. We build great relationships while reading the heat and grades of plates and matching each load to its proper paperwork.
Samuel has many things to offer including competitive benefits and a top notch pay scale. For me, it was important to be home every night with my family, and Samuel has made that possible.
I also love that I work with a lot of great people. Our team always helps each other, whether it’s loading a truck, sharing directions, or just being there to support one another. We are always willing to help each other out and share important information.
I decided to work for Samuel not only because of their many locations, but also because of all the opportunities they offer. Our management team is eager to listen to suggestions and readily available to solve any problems we may stumble across.
Samuel is a great place to work and I would highly recommend it to my friends and family.
