Green Initiatives

At Samuel, we know that we can play a key role in protecting our environment and we take this responsibility seriously. We are committed to demonstrating sustainability leadership, in both our business and our communities, by minimizing waste and consumption and continuously improving environmental conditions.

With metal products now recognized as the world’s most recycled material, we play a unique role when it comes to environmental responsibility. The metals industry is at the core of emerging energy and fuel markets, and we help to create important environmental solutions by manufacturing for and supplying to green energy markets. In order to have the most significant impact, Samuel’s green initiatives focus on four key pillars of environmental responsibility: Technological progress, improved infrastructure, operational measures, and reducing landfill waste.

In 2019, Samuel employees have committed to completing five core projects before the end of the year:

  • Eliminating use of plastic water bottles at all Samuel facilities
  • Making recycling mandatory at all Samuel office facilities
  • Significantly reducing printing and wasted paper
  • Tracking and reducing utility usage at all Samuel facilities
  • Ending use of Styrofoam and paper cups at all Samuel facilities

Samuel also has a number of other ongoing initiatives, some of which include:

  • Making 100% of the plastic strap used by the Samuel Packing Systems
  • Group in Fort Mill, SC from recycled plastic bottles and prioritizing the use of recycled polyester (PET) and polypropylene (PP) in the making of industrial strapping at other Samuel PSG facilities.
  • Upgrading to high-efficiency HVAC systems and high-efficiency florescent or LED lighting systems, to reduce consumption and improve healthy working conditions.
  • Implementing carbon prevention projects – many Samuel locations now operate rooftop solar panels.
  • Using biodegradable lubricants and cleaning products.
  • Recycling scrap metals or donating unrecyclable discarded materials to school apprenticeship programs.
  • Recycling transport skids.
