ENVIRONMENT

At Samuel, we know that we can play a key role in protecting our environment and we take this responsibility seriously. We are committed to demonstrating sustainability leadership, in both our business and our communities, by minimizing waste and consumption and continuously improving environmental conditions.

With metal now recognized as the world’s most recycled material, we play a unique role when it comes to environmental responsibility. The metals industry is at the core of emerging energy and fuel markets, and we help to create important environmental solutions by manufacturing for and supplying to green energy markets.

The Time To Act Is Now

As a large industrial products company, not only do we have a responsibility to be more environmentally conscious, we also have a responsibility to act.

As a metal manufacturer, processor and distributor, we are a significant power consumer — from natural gas to electricity. Given this, not only do we have a responsibility to ensure our metals are sourced, recycled and reused responsibly but we are also responsible for utilizing power in a more efficient way. We are continually exploring new methods and technologies that will help us to do so.

Samuel Energy Program Celebrates Two Years Of Success

Our efforts to reduce energy consumption in 2021 were driven through the Samuel Energy Program – an effort launched in July 2020, with a focus on reducing energy consumption and costs. Over the past two years, the Samuel Energy Program has grown tremendously and has celebrated a number of successes including:

  • Increasing the number of participating sites from 11 to 32.
  • Supporting our sites to achieve their energy reduction goals, one of which includes the Associated Tube Group in Markham, Ontario, as the team was able to reduce their electricity KPI by 9% and CO2e emission by 4% in 2021.
