Job Description:

Reporting to Vice President – Carbon Procurement, this role is responsible for leading and managing procurement and supply chain strategies for our Carbon Steel business within Samuel Son & Co. including flat roll, plate and long products. The role acts as a pivotal support function and enabler for Service Centre and Manufacturing business on key procurement processes, commodity strategy development and execution, supply chain strategies and governance. This role drives strong collaboration between center led commodity procurement/supply chain teams and plant/local procurement and supply management teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Aligns with Regional VP’s and business unit Presidents to develop solid understanding of business needs, supports the development of commodity specific supplier and cost management strategies leading to profitable growth of the business.
• Aligns with center led commodity procurement teams to develop procurement strategies for all Carbon Steel products including flat roll, plate and long products
• Aligns with VP Metal Supply Chain to deploy the supply chain practices within the regions/business units, specifically inventory efficiency.
• Provides Procurement and Supply Chain Leadership and guidance to a team of plant/local procurement professionals
• Leads supplier development initiatives consistent with commodity strategy and at the same time fulfilling business needs in terms of cost, specification and supply chain expectations
• Supports new sales/business development initiatives by evaluating options within the procurement market place for suppliers that provides best cost and most optimal technical and manufacturing solutions.
• Member of the commodity council that evaluates supplier, cost and other commercial terms
• Ensures commodity volume across business units are leveraged to secure lowest possible cost.
• Ensures procurement practices at the local/plant organizations are consistent with enterprise wide procurement practices in terms of governance, supplier relationship and performance management, strategy execution etc.
• Collaborates with plant/local procurement teams to drive inventory efficiency.
• Reviews and ensures supply side contracts and inventory commitments are consistent with business needs and sales forecasts
• Leads structured supplier performance/business reviews; manages supplier scorecards to improve supplier performance
• Provide training across the business through webinars, branch visits and through supplier programs about in-house procurement policies, practices and new developments in metal procurement
• Coach and mentor regional procurement teams
• Other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain, Finance or related field or equivalent work experience
• Professional designation such as Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or equivalent
• 10 or more years of progressive experience in strategic procurement and supply chain management ideally within service centers/automotive/aerospace industries/industrial manufacturing
• Leadership experience in developing and managing teams in multi-site operations and matrix reporting structure.
• Has solid understanding of strategic procurement, commodity management, leveraged buying and global/regional procurement markets.
• Understands supply chain concepts as related to inventory management and risk mitigation. Have gained very good understanding of the concepts as part of a supply chain organization directly or indirectly.
• Extensive commodity procurement experience, ideally in steel
• Prior experience in buying steel directly from Mills, Metal Service Centers will be of significant advantage
• Data driven with strong analytical skills; able to generate a wide range reports and process data that forms the basis for solid decision making
• Solid understanding of concepts such as cost analysis, cost drivers and cost modelling
• A proponent of change who can introduce modern procurement concepts and influence people
• Have prior experience in/exposure to inventory management
• Can lead the development of procurement/supply chain KPIs/Performance metrics for the business as well as for suppliers
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
• Possess the ability to work with minimum supervision
• Good organization and time management skills as well as the ability to meet deadlines
• Bachelor’s degree, Engineering, Business/Economics; MBA will be an asset
• Prior ERP experience: SAP/MS Dynamics/JDE
• Solid understanding of ISO/TS 16949 system/ Policies and Procedures/compliance requirements
