Job Description:

This position is responsible for the effective / efficient operations of the Receiving, Product Storage / Handling, and Shipping areas for the facility.  Position serves as a backup to Operations Manager during his plant absence which includes supporting the processing areas of the facility.  Directly interfaces with 2nd Shift Operations to ensure the customer delivery requirements are met and or exceeded.

This position reports directly to the Operations Manager with oversight of the facility GM while being directly responsible for 5 to 15 employees.


  • Member of Joint Health and Safety Committee ensuring a safe, clean working environment for all employees with Safety being a # 1 priority
  • Ensure all employees follow and adhere to company policies and procedures, particularly Safety and Quality while setting a proper example
  • Assess and develop training plans for all employees to include the identification and cross training for backup employees
  • Works effectively with all other plant staff and departments to continuously improve service and resolve operational issues
  • Maintain and improve service level to all departments with special attention provided to the needs of the business and customer requirements
  • Review / participate in continuous improvements for areas of responsibility
  • Ensure that a positive, cooperative work environment is maintained and improved for all employees
  • Schedule and conduct periodic performance reviews and evaluations for all direct reports
  • Support any and all special projects identified by Operations Management for the overall improvement of business objectives


This position must ensure compliance with all the policies and procedures associated with the Samuel Quality Management System in order to maintain the facility's certification by performing the following:

  • Verify all product meet the basic cosmetic (visual) requirements of the customer
  • Ensure all product packaged for customer delivery has been “counted, measured and mic'd"
  • Replace material  to ensure non-conforming material is not sent to the customer
  • Initiate actions to prevent occurrence product non-conformance
  • Properly identify and record any product non-conformance
  • Initiate recommendations or provide solutions through the Quality improvement process
  • Verify implementation of solutions for product integrity
  • Control further delivery on non-conforming material


TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED ON THE JOB (Computer, Programs, AS400):

Computer, Microsoft Office applications, AS400 ERP system, forklifts, side-loader forklifts, pallet jacks, tape measure, micrometer, caliper, feeler gauge, taper gauge, Chop / meter saw, various hand tools (hammer, pry bar, circular saw, reciprocating saw, etc.), overhead crane w/attachments



Wooden pallets, PVC, wood sheathing, various sizes / weights/ gauges of aluminum and steel


APPLICABLE METHODS USED (Procedures, Manuals, Associated References):

Samuel policies and procedures, ISO Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, various equipment operation manuals


QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Certifications, Special Skills):

  • 3 – 5 years experience in Receiving / Product storage / Shipping / Logistics in a Supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrate initiative, efficiency and be an effective communicator
  • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to changes and time constraint pressures
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
  • AS400 (ERP) system preferred
  • Background with ISO QMS certification
