Reporting to the VP Metal Supply Chain, this role will spearhead the development and implementation of best in class inventory control practices within the Service Center business. This role acts as a pivotal support function and enabler for the business units on key procurement and supply chain management processes that leads to the improvement of cost structure of the business and, inventory and operational efficiencies.
Responsible for developing and implementing best in class inventory management and control practices within Service Center business.
Develops analytical tools and reporting capabilities that facilities effective inventory management practices.
Collaborates extensively with regional and branch operations and assist them in the deployment of inventory control tools and mechanisms.
Participates in supply chain council meetings to review inventory performance at the regional and branch levels.
Measures inventory performance on a weekly basis, communicates with branch operations to drive improvements
Generates on-hand, on-order, aged inventory reports by branches/regions to achieve yearly inventory improvement objectives.
Reviews volume commitment to suppliers before orders are placed to ensure inventory levels are within targets. Provides feedback to procurement team to renegotiate volume and release commitments to suppliers when required.
Collaborates with regional and branch teams to achieve targeted inventory reduction goals.
Supports ERP implementation team in the deployment of inventory parameters and reports
Other responsibilities as assigned
Bachelor's in Business, Supply Chain, Finance or related field or equivalent work experience
Professional designation such as Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or equivalent
10 or more years of progressive experience in inventory management in fast paced, large and multi-site manufacturing, distribution or retail business settings.
Hands on inventory control/inventory management experience
Solid understanding of best in class inventory management/control practices
Strong analytical skills with deep expertise in developing analytical tools and reports for effective inventory management and control
Experience in a similar role in a multisite manufacturing environment is required
Strong leadership skills and proactive work ethic
Experience with managing change in a similar role is an asset
Strong knowledge of procurement related laws and regulations within the Canadian, USA and Mexico
Proficient in MS Office applications
Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to travel as required
Prior Hands-on experience in ERP systems ideally SAP/MS Dynamics/JDE
