Position: Project Engineer

Job Description:

​Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess proposals to assigned projects for technical feasibility and cost effectiveness

  • Investigate costs associated with potential projects and generate summaries outlining these costs for management

  • Conduct feasibility studies to help evaluate solutions to problems or improvement to existing systems

  • Prepare production line and facility layouts

  • Develop overall project schedules and scopes of work to help coordinate related project tasks to be carried out

  • Set up technical specifications of equipment to be purchased and write up purchase orders

  • Oversee all key aspects of assigned projects and monitor costs and resource utilization to ensure they comply with project parameters

  • Assist in equipment commissioning, start up and operator training

  • Design new and/or modify existing equipment in order to improve efficiency, performance and safety

  • Design new and/or modify existing equipment in order to improve efficiency, performance and safety

  • Ensure that new and existing installations satisfy applicable codes and standards

  • Provide technical support for all Samuel branches that request it (including investigating and analyzing technical problems related to plant equipment on behalf of, or in conjunction with, production and maintenance personnel.

  • Review articles, technical literature, reports, brochures, etc that are relevant to the steel service center industry and/or related projects

  • Other responsibilities and projects as assigned


Quality System Requirements:

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non conformities relating to product, process and quality system

  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system

  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels

  • Verify the implementation of solutions

  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of non conforming product until deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected

  • Represent the needs of the customer in internal functions in addressing QS9000 requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science or its equivalent

  • 2 years' experience; Registered P Eng.

  • Knowledge of QS9000 policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Engineering Codes and Standards and Engineering Materials

  • Project engineering competency, leadership and strong technical capabilities

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office applications

  • Knowledge of civil foundations and structural steel would be an asset

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment is essential

  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Valid driving license and passport
