Job Description:

​Working within a growing team and expanding function, the Market Analyst will contribute positively to business results and support segment leads and sales groups by uncovering customer, market and/or product insights and opportunities that will drive additional (incremental) revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Segment/Product Analysis

  • Provide (fact-based) quantitative data to identify key segments to Samuel based on existing business across the enterprise

  • Develop growth board data for each segment; understand market analytics (external market size data and growth) from third party sources

  • Conduct market share analytics on regular basis (gather, validate, report, communicate)

In Depth Analysis of Identified Priority Segments:

  • Complete NAICS analysis per segment

  • Identify existing key customers within each segment and work with segment market teams to identify opportunities

 Customer Insights and Analytics

  • Establish way of collecting regular customer input (both qualitative and quantitative)

  • Work with the various sales teams and marketing groups to develop customer insight for our various segments that will help equip our sales teams to grow their sales

Competitive Analysis

  • Conduct regular competitive analysis to identify key competitive insights by segment, product or region

Industry/Market Research

  • Identify and attend industry association conferences and events

  • Look for opportunities to sell or position Samuel through industry associations

  • Provide market and industry research that will help promote profitable growth in the various business units, product groups and market segments

Direct Sales Support

  • Financial analysis; sharing of sales information across branches and divisions

  • Identify advertising opportunities for segments or products

  • Develop KPI's and track and measure progress



  • University degree ideally in marketing, finance, computer science, related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 5-8 years' experience in a Marketing Analyst role; preferably metals/manufacturing and business to business related

  • Financial background is preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to multi-task, adhere to project plans, prioritize and execute tasks in fast paced, growing environment

  • Ability to work independently, on teams and within all levels of the organization

  • Creative in thinking beyond the boundaries of existing industry practices and mindsets

  • Some infrequent travel may be required between Samuel facilities and industry events

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, BI / Sigma, Bloomberg, as well as other software, website, ERP, CRM programs (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Hoovers, etc)

  • Pricing analysis and customer profitability experience
